CLIENT: THE MARITIME MUSEUM
PROJECT: CONCEPT PERMANENT EXHIBITION
LOCATION: STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN
Kvorning Design & Communication crafted an exhibition concept for Boat Hall 2 for the Maritime Museum in Stockholm, Sweden. A simple, but scenographic approach changes the flow of visitors, the selection and the order of the vessels, creates new internal relations between the boat types, modifies the building and, last but not least, transforms the visitor’s experience all over.

Semi-transparent waves make the ground floor come alive. Here one is out on the open sea surrounded by various kinds of boats. Atmosphere, facts and history in one go. Lights, sounds and live imagery support the expressive design. From the stairs leading up to the first floor, the visitors will see the vessels hanging in an atrium-like open space between the floors. This open space does not exist at the moment, but it is a strong feature, which we hope to add to the exhibition space.

Once you reach the first floor, you get the impression of stepping ashore a beautiful summer night. The light is warmer and the mood is more intimate. Here visitors can step into the boat builder’s workshop. Close to the stairs a selection boat engines are displayed openly so visitors can touch and take a close look. This impressive exhibition is also supported by an expressive digital layer.
