THE ELEPHANT HOUSE

CLIENT: COPENHAGEN ZOO
PROJECT: ELEPHANT HOUSE, PERMANENT EXHIBITION
TYPOLOGY: MUSEUM DESIGN AND EXHIBITIONS
LOCATION: COPENHAGEN, DENMARK
KVORNING developed the exhibition concept for the Elephant House at Copenhagen Zoo, Denmark. The Elephant House was designed by the world-renowned architectural studio Norman Foster + Partners.
The exhibition and interpretation are arranged along a long ramp that winds its way down through the building’s two levels. Along the way, visitors encounter both the live elephants and various forms of interpretation about the animals’ significance, cultural history, and physiology.
Both the overall concept and many of the interactive elements focus on comparing oneself with—and playfully competing against—the elephants. The concept was developed in close collaboration with the Zoo’s in-house design studio.
