THE ISLAND OF THE DEVIANTS – LIVOE
CLIENT: VESTHIMMERLANDS MUSEER
PROJECT: THE ISLAND OF THE DEVIANTS – LIVOE
TYPOLOGY: MUSEUM DESIGN AND EXHIBITIONS
STED: LIVOE, DENMARK
The story of Livoe is the story of Denmark’s oldest island institution, which from 1911 to 1961 housed men who were considered undesirable by society. It is an important part of Danish history and, at the same time, provides essential insight into past views of humanity and the treatment of marginalized groups in society.
A holistic and cohesive exhibition and visitor experience design will bring Livoe’s history, nature, cultural heritage, traces of human activity, people, and narratives to life as a total experience within authentic, preserved surroundings—year-round.
KVORNING is a key part of the winning team behind the interpretation project. The contract was won together with E+N Architecture (lead), LYTT Architecture, and Henry Berthelsen Consulting Engineers. The visitor and interpretation facilities are expected to be completed in June 2028.
