KVORNING carried out a major update of Knud Rasmussen’s House in Hundested in Denmark. It feels as though the Greenlandic-Danish author, polar explorer, and anthropologist has just returned to his beloved, iconic house, with its magnificent views over the Kattegat, the memorial cairn, and Spodsbjerg Lighthouse.

Within Rasmussen’s elegant, historic rooms, most of the iconic house’s built-in cupboards have been transformed into ultra-modern display cases featuring historical objects, each telling stories from the polar explorer’s life and expeditions. When opening the cabinet doors, Knud’s hunting rifles, gleaming orders, and medals are revealed—along with his rare film footage and models presented against the backdrop of the harsh yet awe-inspiring Arctic. One cabinet in particular conceals a truly special visual effect that must be experienced in person. The fireplace crackles softly. A piano plays in the background, while a typewriter cheerfully taps away from Knud’s cosy study. A living scenography that sparks memories and brings history vividly to life.
