NORDIC CIRCLE WINS FIT AWARD 2026, GOLD

Nordic Circle – the immersive exhibition in the Nordic Pavilion at World EXPO 2025 in Osaka, Japan – receives the FIT Award 2026, GOLD in the category Interactive Communication & Information. The project was developed and delivered by Team EXPONEX.

NORDIC CIRCLE WINS GERMAN DESIGN AWARD 2026

Nordic Circle – the immersive exhibition inside the Nordic Pavilion at World EXPO 2025 Osaka, Japan – has been awarded the German Design Award 2026 in the category Excellent Architecture. Developed and realized by Team EXPONEX. The award was presented in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, on February 6, 2026.

‘Unique Livø Stories’

KVORNING facilitates the workshop ‘Unique Livø Stories’ at Vitskøl Monastery, as a key part of the winning team behind the interpretation project ‘The Island of Deviants – The Livø Institution: A Coherent Historical Experience.’

The workshop was designed as a shared space for reflection—an open and inspiring day centered on dialogue and creative knowledge-sharing. Valuable input on how the history of the Livø Institution 1911-1961 can be brought to life in a meaningful and respectful way.

The contract was won together with E+N Arkitektur (lead consultant), LYTT Architecture, and Henry Berthelsen Consulting Engineers.

Feasibility Study for Lofoten Aquarium

KVORNING, together with Rintala Eggertsson and Aquaconstruct, has developed a feasibility study for the Lofoten Aquarium in Kabelvåg, Norway.

Major technical improvements will enhance the quality of the aquarium and provide visitors with a better experience of animal welfare and the exhibitions. The skrei (cod) will have a more prominent place in the interpretation and in the new Skrei aquarium, which expands the existing facility with a small fish section. Seals and otters will get new pools, creating new opportunities for exhibitions and interpretation, and the quay area will be enhanced to showcase everything that can be cultivated in the sea in the future.

Great review of UPP-LEV!

Utställningskritik #5, 2024 brings Pia Cederholm’s review of the Uppland Museum’s new permanent exhibition at Akademikvarnen, Uppsala, Sweden, UPP-LEV! – Time, Thoughts, and Things in Uppland, which was inaugurated on November 30, 2024, with Kvorning as the exhibition architect.

“History consists of an endless flow of events and stories. All these moments become parts of a greater whole – the history of Uppland. The passage of time, from the Stone Age to the present day, is depicted through more than 1,300 artefacts and individual stories and life journeys. The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through history, where the place, Uppland, emerges as a living and multifaceted region.” writes Pia Cederholm and continues –

“The rounded display walls gradually open like petals as you move deeper into the exhibition on this winding journey through history. The feeling is that the exhibition never ends; there are always new life stories to immerse yourself in, but the time is running, and the museum closes at 5:00 p.m. Outside the Uppland Museum, darkness has fallen, and Fyrisån flows on as if nothing has happened. But it has! Much has happened in Uppland. And many, many fragments of the past’s joys and hardships are now commendably revived in UPP-LEV!”

Utställningskritik is Sweden’s only magazine dedicated to museums and exhibition criticism.

Aquarium Feasibility Study

Kvorning ApS wins competition regarding a feasibility study of Lofotakvariet for Museum Nord and SKREI Eiendom, Norway.
Lofotakvariet is part of the new large museum project SKREI at Lofoten, Norway, where construction of the main building, Otolitten, is well underway. Kvorning’s international winning team includes Danish animal welfare experts, Norwegian architects, and Australian aquarium technologists as sub-consultants.

Project Manager Jens-Henrik Andersen, SKREI, states:

“We are very happy to have such a skilled partner as Kvorning on board, with high expertise in exhibition design and practical experience with aquariums. We look forward to exploring the possibilities for the further development of Lofotakvariet together. The feasibility study runs in parallel with the construction of SKREI, which is set to open in 2026. In collaboration with Kvorning, we look forward to creating an aquarium that is a great place for fish, animals, visitors, and staff – and that enhances the communication of the fascinating life in the Lofoten Archipelago.”

EXPO 2025 Osaka

Kvorning is part of Team Exponex, an international team participating in the competition about designing and implementing the exhibition for the Nordic Pavilion for the EXPO 2025 Osaka. The pavilion will represent the unity of the five Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. The theme being ‘’Designing Future Society for Our Lives’.

Team Exponex consists of Exponex, Czech Republic, Wintenex and Habegger, both Switzerland, Kvorning, Denmark, Rintala Eggertsson Architects, Norway, Gagarin, Iceland, and Rei Matsumoto, Japan, onboard.

Congrats again, Gagarin!

We are thrilled to announce that our good friends and partners Gagarin, Iceland, has received a nomination to the European Design Awards 2024 in the category, ‘Digital Infographics’ for producing the animations in the Heavy Water Cellar in Vemork, Norway.

Kvorning produced and installed the main exhibition. Gagarin created several interactive exhibits at the Heavy Water Cellar in Norway where the daring sabotage mission took place.

Museum of the year 2024

Kvorning has developed exhibition concept and design for 2 of 3 Norwegian museums nominated for Årets Museum 2024 / Museum of the Year 2024 by the Norwegian Museum Association. The Jekt Trade Museum in Bodø and the Hurtigrute Museum in Stokmarknes.

Thanks a lot, to the super dedicated museum teams for inspiring collaboration, to architects Rintala Eggertsson and Link Architecture, the Norwegian Museum Association and everyone involved.

Transformative processes

Exhibition designers from Cape Town, Amsterdam, London, New York, Mexico City, and Copenhagen met today to present and discuss selected works – focusing on key themes like transformation, social polarization, racial justice, climate emergency, techno ethics through their work.

Arne Kvorning was invited to participate this session and introduced Salmon Eye as a transformative project with focus on sustainable fish farming – a conference center, a visitor experience, and a fine dining restaurant all in one floating pavilion.

The forum was organized by Tricia Austin from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London and Tim McNeil, University of California, Davis. As editors for the Routledge series Museum Making, they envisage the discussions leading to a new book that would feature industry expertise from across the world to demonstrate the important impact of exhibition design on society.
