New exhibition for Danfoss in Als

Kvorning Design & Communication is responsible for the concept, design and production of the Danfoss Museum’s new permanent exhibition, ‘Mads and his dreams’, about the founder, Mads Clausen (1905-1966). Set on his native farm in Als, the exhibition takes its cue from Mads’s ability to dream throughout his life. From pure imagination and fervent desire during his boyhood, through inspiration and creativity in his youth, to concrete goals for the future during adulthood.

‘Mads and his dreams’ brings to life the tale of a person who is capable of dreaming, setting himself goals and accomplishing them. A narrative device with conscious dramatic art, light, sound and projections. The rooms of the farm create filmic backdrops to the anecdotes. A poetic and unconstrained layer that underpins the narrative. Displays operate on sight-lines and axes, positioning central experiences and points de vues at the end of them, with one room thereby introducing the next. In parallel with Mads’s life story and Danfoss’s development, the rooms and the stories unfurl – ups and downs – joys and sorrows.

‘HISTORY COLLECTION’ IN LEGO HOUSE

When LEGO House, the toy company’s brand-new experience centre in LEGO hometown Billund, opens on 28. September 2017 – Kvorning Design & Communication has a finger in the pie. In close collaboration with LEGO, Kvorning has designed and produced the ‘History Collection’ which showcases all the highlights since 1932.

In a continuous, close collaboration with the LEGO Group’s ever so committed and inspired employees within the historic branch, Kvorning Design and Communication has designed and developed the exhibitions for the History Collection in the base of the LEGO House; a new 12,000 square metre experience centre in LEGO’s home town Billund.

Explore childhood memories

As grown-ups and kids head down the stairs, or descend by the elevator, into the basement and the ‘History Collection’, they are welcomed by a 2 x 2 metre logotype. The visitors will explore their own childhood through the gems of the exhibition: LEGO products will convey the company’s long history though significant milestones, drawings and models. Here is everything a true Lego fan could possibly imagine. Of course, there are also animations of kids playing in classic scenarios, familiar to most visitors either from themselves or their kids.

LEGO® models and boxes through decades

Halfway through the collection visitors will see a light which lures them into a room resembling the interior of a giant LEGO brick. The room features an exhibition of original LEGO models and boxes through decades. Regardless of age, anyone can find a cherished LEGO box, either as a physical model or on the interactive table displaying more than 5,000 LEGO boxes. In two, big round showcases and along the walls are hundreds of original models and boxes on display to stir dear memories. ‘History Collection’ is a true treasury which will steal your heart and mind.

Kongskilde Nature Centre – The portal to central Zealand

The new family attraction of the Danish Nature Agency at Kongskilde Nature centre opened on 30. April 2017. The centre serves as a portal to the beautiful, hilly landscape of central Zealand with lakes and forests almost at its doorstep. Kvorning Design & Communication designed the exhibition.

Kongskilde Nature centre is a fine exhibition filled to the brim with nature. The natural theme extends to materials and colours with interior details such as posters in birch veneer and green linoleum floors. Young and adult visitors are prepared for the sensory nature and culture experiences outdoors by an abundance of analogue and electronical offers.

Kvorning Design & Communication has supplied concept and exhibition design in collaboration with the Danish Nature Agency. Kongskilde Nature Centre close to Sorø offers lots of experiences for families and features both classic and interactive dissemination. The exhibition utilizes the space optimally and presents fine posters, mounted animals, exploration buttons and a seek-and-find-corner where kids and adults can contribute to the exhibition, upload their own photos at Kongskildes Facebook-page or just hang out.

Project assistant Elly Andersen, the Danish Nature Agency, says –

’We are thrilled to show our visitors the new nature centre. The area is fantastic to explore and features lovely nature experiences and interesting narratives. The exhibition also shares good stories and show how the whole family can discover those gems on their own. More glory for Horsens Prison Museum

Congratulations once again Horsens Prison Museum, this time awarded second prize in the competition Historiske Dages Fornyelsespris 2017.

Historiske Dages Fornyelsespris emphasizes and praises new, innovative, surprising and alternative ways to disseminate history and cultural heritage – ways which make them reach a broader audience.

The committee motivates the Prison Museum’s second prize with the following statement:

“The museum relates to a greater perspective, not only including the society, the offender and the sanctions but also the stories behind; for instance, how imprisonment of one parent affects families and children. Five additional sections at the museum’s exhibition, new website content and last, but not least, a Twitter-profile which focuses on the current debate on the rule of law and how we relate to those who have wronged society.”

Congratulations also to the winners Øhavsmuseet Faaborg and Anders Olling and Erik Havsteen landing the third prize. 19 contributions were nominated in total.

‘The Compartment of Dreams’

The new temporary exhibition ’The Compartment of Dreams’ at The Danish Railway Museum exploring the Danes’ train journeys abroad is designed by Kvorning Design & Communication. The exhibition features both journeys in luxurious blue Wagons-Lits carriages destined for iconic destinations and the haphazardly Interrail journeys in the worn-down, red carriages of DSB. The two different ways of travel were both offered by Danish travel agencies in the beginning of the 1970’ies.

Poetic exhibition
’The Compartment of Dreams’ is a poetic exhibition which aims to make the visitors dream themselves; to put the everyday hassle behind and indulge themselves for a short moment. Hence, the 400 m2 exhibition space is structured like a train journey; before, under and after – the preparations with the travel agency, travel packing checklists and foreign currencies, the compartments, meals and dreams and finally arriving at Gare du Nord and the city of cities: Paris.

The essence of the journey
To ensure top-class experiences, the artefacts of the exhibition have been carefully selected and have been limited to an absolute minimum. Aiming to capture the essence and the mood of the journeys and, at the same time, provide a calm and spacious setting that stimulates contemplation. Uniform backgrounds streamline the expression and secures a consistent context across the setting while interactive and analogue features complement each other across the exhibition.

The Compartment of Dreams’ opens at The Danish Railway Museum in Odense, Denmark on 18. March 2017.

Team selected to design Danish film city

Together with AART architects, SLA, Ramboll and Kvorning Design & Communication have won the competition to extend Filmby Aarhus and transform it into a creative hub, not only for filmmakers, but for the entire city of Aarhus. “The task opens up new opportunities to strengthen the film city’s status as a creative catalyst in Aarhus. By turning the film city inside out and bringing it to eye level with the surrounding city, we aim to create an eventful public venue while promoting new forms of cooperation – all with a focus on creating an integrated creative hub as an active and attractive part of the city,” says Anders Tyrrestrup, a partner at AART architects.

New exhibitions at Horsens Prison Museum

Horsens Prison Museum, Horsens Museum and Kvorning Design & Communication open yet another round of exhibitions in the authentic, rough setting of the former state prison in Horsens. ’The children of the convicts’, ’Discussion room’, ’Convict tales’ and ’Thematic narratives’ offer new dimensions to life behind bars.

Faithful towards the Prison Museum’s mission to be a vivid, influencing museum and the vision of becoming the world’s best prison museum, the exhibition encourages visitors to consider and reflect upon – and even enter a dialogue with – the four themes of the exhibition.

Kvorning’s exhibition concept combines interactive and analogue means to render the reality under lock and key. Moving images, projections, lights, sounds and scents reproduce life in jail and digital as well as analogue discussion forums keep the exhibition up to date.
